Shiatsu
Description: Shiatsu, also known as Acupressure, is a Japanese form of massage performed over clothing. The therapist first applies pressure along the meridians (lines of energy) with the palms, and then with the thumbs in a slow, repetitive fashion. Pressure proceeds from light to firm, within the client’s pain tolerance and is adjusted according to the therapist’s ongoing assessment. Like Swedish Relaxation massage, Shiatsu stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system. This leads to decreased muscle tension, increased immune response and increased circulation in the blood and lymph vessels as well as a decrease in blood pressure. Patients often report a greater sense of groundedness, clarity, and inner calm. It is suggested that clients wear loose comfortable clothing such as yoga or workout attire. No oils or lotions are used!
